When asked what I want to do in life, for me, it is an easy answer. My passion is to work in the golf industry either in golf sales or owning and operating a golf course. It is amazing how motivated one can be when they are doing something they love. On a personal level, I have already designed and created a business plan for a golf course that I am planning on owning in the future. I find myself dreaming about the day that I will be able to take the leap of faith and move forward with making my dream a reality.
Motivation is characterized by a set of internal and external driving forces. These forces activate, channel, and sustain behavior towards some individual or group and also towards organizational and societal goals. This is a standard book definition; however, there are many other forces which motivate. I agree that motivation is a driving force, but that driving force can be very different for everyone depending on any number of factors such as age, gender, past experiences, financial situation, etc.
It is easy to become comfortable in what we do for many reasons. Finding a good job is tough enough, let alone in an area which one is passionate about. We all have responsibilities that need fulfilled such as monthly bills and expenses and many give up on dreams. Most people work to live, but I like to think if there is passion for what one is doing, they live to work. I do not want to find myself stuck in a job that I do not have a passion for. We spend the majority of our adult life working, so why not do something that we love?
